There’s these things called throttle bodies. With the new 3.8 Whipples starting to kick ass on the tracks by the few who have them, they are clearly very capable. But…. There hasn’t been a throttle body big enough to feed the thing what it wants. They will come but for now…. What to do? This! Okay….. 😊. Back from the Roadkill Last Call event. I’ll leave the Demon 170 thing out of this to keep things on track. The drag racing part of the show was a 60 car field split into Big Tire and Small Tire. All of the SpankinTime cars ran Big Tire because the 315 Radials we use are too big. There were many more Big Tires due to the 275 requirement for the Small tire class. Anyway…. We pretty much kicked ass on everybody but one old Dodge Dart with with a turbocharged 440 and ‘real’ big tires. That thing was bad ass 🫣. Nichole driving the repaired B5 Redeye was fastest qualifier with a 5.27 at 136 mph. That was worth $1000. I was number 3 behind the Dart with a 5.43 at 130 and Max in the Dragnum was 4th with a 5.45. So that set the final 4 in Big Tire and we were the show. I drew Nichole for the first elimination and she ate my lunch. I can not run with that 3.8 Whipple. The 3.0 ain’t enough for that thing. Max red lighted against the monster Dart so the final was set. Unfortunately…. He ran his best pass against Nichole in the final and she went down in a close race. A little info for the few who have gotten your sixty’s down into the 1.20’s. We were seeing a concerning drop in oil pressure off the line that didn’t recover until 3rd gear. The fact that the front end is coming up so high and staying there due to the drag shocks may be a factor, but that kind of acceleration with a front sump oil pan is just not a good setup. We’ve also talked about the need for a diaper and the drawbacks of that. Changing oil one of them. So what did we do?….. this. A Moroso rear sump pan. That requires cutting a portion of the cradle out and replacing it with a bar that makes room for the pan. Pretty simple. The diaper is easily pulled back at the rear without removing anything and the oil drain plug is easily accessible. With the car jacked up in the front (about the equivalent of one of our wheelies) and it drains right out without getting a drop on anything. Oil pressure now doesn’t loose a lb. Track prep at this track today was crap didn’t exist. Spun like crazy off the line with 15psi every pass. Should have been faster today.
Unfortunately that’s par for the coarse at most tracks today. Prepping costs money. A car running low 140 mph isn’t making enough hp to run a 1.2 sixty unless it’s super light weight (not us). I didn’t see those until I was into the 8’s at 155 mph and that was on a well prepped track. Just having run MATS at Vegas where they call running the Zamboni over the starting line twice, prep…. I had a best of 1.29 with the rest in the mid 1.3’s. Some are lucky to enjoy running tracks where they take pride in their prep and will foot the bill for spraying the good stuff to make it happen. Some promoters don’t want to full prep not only because it costs money, but an event can get slowed down due to breakage. A lot of junk (mostly Mustangs and imports) can’t get down a prepped track without oiling it down. My experience is a 142 mph Hellcat would be doing good with a 1.40. Also I’ve seen my best sixty’s with 20 lbs in the tires. Going down doesn’t seem to help with the radials.

Yep, I will say Irlando 100% preps better than Gainesville, at least for a test and tune. And I had to air down just to get traction here! I was running 22 psi at Orlando, 18 here (spun sideways), and then 15 it still didn’t dead hook. Welp, bsck to the drawing board, more mods to come. Was fastest hellcat there by seconds, but was still hoping to beat my pb of 9.8 and get a 9.7. Pb on the mph @ 142 though. Getting too hot on the top end, need a chiller or ice box. For some reason car seamed slower with canned e85 s, not sure if that okayed into it. Need to look at the data

It looks like it’s time to take a break and start getting stuff ready for fall. The new motor is just about ready for assembly and the trusty bullet that has been in the car for three years now will come out. Not sure what to do with that yet. It’s still healthy and capable of around 1300whp but that’s not enough going forward. I have a “interested” buyer, but that decision hasn’t been made yet. We have a chance to purchase a beautiful tube chassis 71 Challenger Drag Car that is a absolute showpiece and only weighs 2500 lbs. The motor would run 6’s in that thing. What to do! 😁. From a performance standpoint…. The trip to Vegas was a good one. Definitely got the ignition/coil pack problems fixed with the change to the MSD’s. Vegas is a good 3 tenths slower than the last track we ran on at Baytown (RIP) and a 8.5 with the Vegas conditions are outstanding. 3800 ft da and the prep wasn’t good enough to even get it on the bar (1.35 sixty). The 30mph headwinds also didn’t help. The car thought it was going 190 into that 😂 Check the big flags in the picture at the top end. Ohoh. Failure to communicate 😖. I’m not selling Stinkeye. The new 2000hp motor is going there. I was ruminating the idea of placing my current motor in the tube chassis car so I could drive it. 😏

It's good to see that the MSD pieces took care of your ignition issues.
Re the rear sump oil pan: Have you checked your oil pressure after the finish line when the chute is out? I've had a couple of fast cars in the past that had similar oil pressure issues with uncovering the p-u in the shut down.

Marc I will be watching my oil pressure closer this year. But the low 1.2s I ran I didn’t see a drop yet. I also am not bringing my front end up very much tho.

No I have not but that’s a good idea. Of coarse the rpm is back down to idle as soon as I go off throttle, so a momentary drop wouldn’t be as critical as full throttle thru first gear. I will make sure to check that though.
