Unconventional batteries have a degree of risk associated with them that I am not ready to accept. In other words, I keep all my lithium leaf blower and chain saw batteries outside, and laptops and cell phones unplugged when i am not around and still am wary of them. Have you ever seen a cell phone battery fire? Nasty. Some claim the lithium-iron-oxide type are safer than ion, but I am not ready to assume the risk. They would be outside when not used in the car at the track. Granted, there are fail-safes and microprocessor controlled charging circuits in the latest and greatest out there, but heat, or damage is the enemy. Heat breaks down the insulators, and when the components come together it makes for a bad day. More than a few cars/houses/garages have burnt up in the middle of the night. A drag racing insurance salesman once used a lithium fire as an example of a claim he covered that took an entire shop down in the middle of the night. This is an article I saw recently to mull over..
