It wasn’t legal in the 80s when I did it either!
Though, my uncles el Camino didn’t have seats in the back; just a bunch of garbage that would blow around and hit us. Was fun standing back there with our faces above the roof... till we would hit a patch of bugs, haha. Those were the days.

Those things were quite popular in the Charlottesville Va area late 80's and early 90's. Never in my life have I ever seen anyone riding in back, but always wondered.
