Interesting German NOE footage. The film said 5-7 hour mission at 25 feet AGL the entire flight. I don't get that - any details? That's a long long flight and lack of air defense net should not require terrain masking the entire time. Training? Logistics flight?

The Germans have some great people in their services as well; highly skilled. For years their Tornado squadrons trained at Holloman and only a few years ago pulled them out. Many were the times in the deep forest I'd look up at the sound of jets and see two or three Luftwaffe Tornados go over followed shortly by "red" Tigersharks acting as opfor.

You've heard all the jokes about helo's, I'm sure. Truth be told flying them is harder than flying jet planes.

I used to ride around Japan in our Air Wing's H-3's. Back and forth from Yokosuka harbor where the USS Midway was docked and our shared airfield, Atsugi, about 20 miles away. Always pleased to see a some red hydraulic fluid seeping here and there - knew there was some still in it.

Saw several actual helicopter rescues, one of a squadronmate who ejected after a cold catapult shot. He bought everyone in that crew a nice bottle of Jack Daniels.
