I /love/ the fact that the very first sentence is instruction to remove the ugly bananas... which actually has nothing to do with engine break-in.

Closing in on 400 miles. Been driving it just about every day this week. Exercising the full rpm range has been.....fun. I'm still not running any license plate and had TWO police officers behind me today,
Maybe sometime pull over and say hi! :)

  • Maintain vehicle speed below 85 mph (136 km/h) and observe local speed limits. For the first 1,500 miles (2,414 km):
  • Good luck with that.

I'm still not running any license plate and had TWO police officers behind me today, one after I made a spirited run across an on ramp and back on to the side road playing with a Porsche.

Maybe they've been told not to engage in menial traffic stops now? Gotta be right?

I can't believe every race car built doesn't blow up 1st run down the track because they follow none of this:unsure:

That engine break-in procedure makes me lol literally...... I guess they are probably referring to the transmission, transfer case etc....

Biggest problem I see is not letting the car get up to operating temps before going WOT. Ur oil temp and collant temps are usually miles apart. Temp gauge being up to par doesnt mean ur oil is at the proper temps. 170 degrees is what I go by before making ANY power with it. 150 is probably fine tho.

I imagine any “exercise“ produces 85 mph pretty quickly. That is the important one I think to keep that rear gear set happy. Have fun, great reading @Speedy!.

Just strange for an engine that gets ran on a dyno before it even gets placed in the car

I test drove a G8 GT before and the dash would beep and turn red when you went over the posted limit (even by 1 mph). Not sure how it did that, assuming gps

Your faithful Youtube subscribers are still waiting on an update eh!
I've been hitting the refresh button on YouTube every 20 minutes since the day he got the 170. I am so frustrated that I might have to become a Racer X subscriber now. ;)

@vortecd race engines also have an expectation of being rebuilt on a regular frequency.

When I had Arrington build me a motor for the R/T back in the day they had a very similar break-in procedure they gave me when I picked up the car. I also don't think it wise to go put all 500 miles on the car in one shot. I think heat cycles matter. Just my opinion and how I do things personally. I plan to keep this car a while so I wanna give it the best chance.

I paid close attention
To breaking in the rear differential

I’m still on my first one
I have 400 passes on it
No brace

I found the "run it thru the entire RPM range, manually shifting but don't redline or exceed the 85 MPH" the hardest part.
A couple of shifts/seconds & you're there

Yeah, I've found I can let it rip 1,2,3 using the paddles then let off and it gets the job done. 3.09s make a difference there vs the Hellcat's 2.62s.

GTO had a settable speed warning, assume G8 was the same. It also had a settable warning to tell you to pull over and rest. That was back when cars were nice and stupid, these days they just might take control and force you to do what they say!

The Charger has a speed warning. I had it set at 85 but it became to annoying always going off.

Do you really want things beeping at you unnecessarily when you are doing 185?!?!?

185 is plenty. The white dashed lines become solid and you're covering a football field in right around 1s.

Something beeps at that speed it's game over.

I was out at High Plains Raceway and every time I hit the back stretch, I kept hearing this noise. It drove me batty, but I never figured it out while I was driving.

As it turns out, the car thought I was on Highway 36 and it was warning me about exceeding the speed limit... I figured this out while watching video playback

:ROFLMAO:
