You turn it off and you're on your own.
Back in the day.... Before antilock (pre-1986), when you f'd up, all you needed to do was lock them up and you go straight. This is critical in places like an entrance ramp with a guard rail on one side and a ditch on the other. Stomp on the brake and you simply skid straight to a stop regardless of how you are pointed. Then do a 3-point turn, and continue.
Seems to me the stability control has given back much of what the antilocks took away, I'd hate to be without it. I continue to be shocked how stable these cars are, even the RE, even with AS tires
