Original Black Ghost up for auction at Mecum this spring...

I’ve always wondered what mods were done to the Black Ghost. I mean, there were a lot of built cars running around in those days that would kill a stock hemi Challenger, and was the legend really deserved?

I've been trying to separate the car from the story...pretty safe bet it's 1 of 1 in that configuration since Godfrey supposedly "checked every option box". So that car rotisserie restored with documentation....a million $ car?

then there is the story and documentation...assume car is original less mandatory maintenance items to keep it running & driving? It's been said motor never been out. Only in this condition once. Also with stuff like the trailer hitch, Africa decals, body & paint blems, etc. Do those detract? How much?

My guess is, I fall out of my chair if bidding doesn't reach $500k; not too surprised $500k - 1 million. Wonder who & what guidance the son is getting...what's the reserve at? Fun to ponder...

the midnight racing part of it may be a bit embellished, but who knows. to me it seems a credible story for Hagerty (?) to get behind the documentary.

We have a story that some same isn't true. All you need is one person telling a story that people think is cool and they tell others. I really don't don't know but would like to think it is true. If this car came to auction with no back ground it would bring far less money. I also think that it will be over 500k

If this car came to auction with no back ground it would bring far less money. I also think that it will be over 500k

I've been seeing a lot of Hemi cars only bid to about $200k or so recently. Nice looking Cudas. Those really big numbers haven't been hitting nearly as much lately. Mecum Indy has quite a history of big $$$ for premium muscle cars though. I'm going to guess low on this one and say $500k, I think it would be about a $150k car without the "storied" history.

It is definitely not a $150k car without the story but the story, true or not led to a manufacturer building a tribute car so it will remain and the original car will bid up more than we think. That's why I went sooo high!
I just watched someone bid $13,781.25 (w/premium) for a 1979-D Susan B Anthony 1$ graded MS68, I was willing to go $3K but not $13++
