Even so, wouldn't that take several years to reverse? And the gazillion-dollar investment Tim and every other OEM CEO has put in would then be flushed to swap back to guzzling V8s while the push for EV/low carbon all goes away? No more activists, political push...all gone? Maybe some hybrid action, efficient inline V6 with twin turbos and electric assist. Yes.

Like Tim has repeatedly said (along with GM's 1LECamaro) SC V8's are (permanently) dead.

I get it. I love my big fat SC ICE mobiles too! But "wishcasting" almost never ends well ! ;)

I get what you're saying, but there's also this run-away train that we're on that is going to crash (and that doesn't make sense). When it crashes and we realize we need to pick up the pieces, it will be relatively easy to "fix" the problem by going back to existing infrastructure.

I'm saying that part of the fix could be a reversing of CAFE standards and that would open the door for who knows what...

Yes I am wishing, but I'm also wondering what the train crash looks like when it happens, and if not a CAFE reversal, then what?

These problems are not limited to motor vehicles, all businesses/industries are facing this nonsense. The one thing that f’s up a business more than anything else, is a gvt that keep changing the rules every year or two. The result is everything costs more and doesn’t work as well.

It wouldn't disappear over night because they can just make less EV's and more ICE/hybrids with the same next gen cars. Stellantis patents prove they designed their new vehicles to allow them flexibility. Economy about to get real F'd up, people are getting laid off left and right, so who going to buy all these 100k+ EV's when people sitting on their Last Call vehicles wanting 100k+ for them?

I agree with you all about too much too fast. I guess I’m just pragmatic and don’t see the speeding train reversing course anytime soon. If it does CRASH, our economic woes will be pretty severe and getting big v8s back into the production mix will be pretty LOW on the to-do totem pole. That much I can guarantee (no prediction necessary)! 😂

I believe the end goal is to put us all on bicycles. Maybe with a drill motor and a 20v power pack to help. :(

New V8 engines are being developed.

I can't even imagine the development costs for an inline V6.

Would the crankshaft make a 180 and then go back to the other three cylinders?
Easy now...don't pick on Illegal Demon...it's all that mayo he puts in his coffee:oops:....kinda has a hard time between the v in the road ...and a straight line...:giggle::giggle::giggle:;)

The new hurricanes don't have that. So how long till you need to run to the dealer for value jobs with an engine under high boost?

I'm not an engineer but I was told that it's a knockoff of the 2JZ?

I had a few of these. One making just under 600whp too!

The big problem is the head design sucks for air flow. The 24 valve version helped but it struggled against the VTECs and then the EcoTec 4 bangers of the day. VW still uses this engine in their Atlas SUV. Sounds wicked with a good set of cams and intake/exhaust.

Bout 15 years ago...a friend of mine (a Harvard PHD.who just happens to be black)..and one of the funniest...and quick witted men I know....we did a duo @ a local comedy club....inner city political satire...he was the white guy...I was the black guy...(working in the inner city ghetto for over 40 years I learned the lingo)...I sounded more like Eddie Murphey than Eddie did...it was a 12/15 min schtick...We killed it...the place went nuts..we did it on 3 consecutive Tuesday nights....we could never get away with it today...somewhere one of my friends still has a video....my friend and I loved every minute of it.....you didn't wanna be sittin in the first row..no matter what color you were..

We will have V8's for a while but in what form? Ram 1500 5.7's are all eTorque now (no thanks), and Chev and Ford need to adhere to the increasingly ridiculous mileage and emission requirements. So I worry it is getting like 1973 again.

Edit: No more V8's in the Toyota Tundra.
