True but this brings up an interesting point. Dodge (and other OEM's) have to know that when they put out a high-demand car, there will be ADMs, sometimes huge as is the case with the D170. Given this, why don't their bean counters push for a (much) higher MSRP?

I know what I've said about the D170 serving as a needed gift for the dealers since they were going to be on an EV diet starting in 2024. But more generally speaking why do OEMs PURPOSEFULLY lowball themselves/their bottom line? If I ever meet Tim in person this is a question I definitely will ask him.

Very odd...

PS A good example is the Gen 2 (05-06) and Gen 3 (17-20) Ford GT. CLEARLY, they could have asked for 50% more for the car (esp Gen 3), based on -real- market value. And yet Ford declined to do so and left a shitton of $ on the table.
During the early days of speculation....I think it's safe to say that most thought the MSRP would be in the125/140 range...nobody anticipated a mid nineties price point...(not that I can remember anyway)...the motor company made money with this car...the Dealers (for the most part)...will make even more...and that was by design..now be it a 96 MSRP...or 140 MSRP is irrelevant..the degree of difficulty in securing one of these cars doesn't change...

Dear demon, you obviously don't know me very well. Why would I interact with as many as four people in a month if I don't have to?? Two to three is plenty.

Yes, I'm quite anti-social (in more ways than one), so just for the record, 4pac, demon actually exaggerated my mingling. Less people, fewer doors, life is good.
@1971demon I forgot to mention Jimmy's favorite song is "mo doors, mo problems"

Gen 2 gt's they had issues selling them lol

Gen 3 gt's were hand selected and they made them sign a 2 year no move contract.... john cena settled out of court.

Only way this would have worked for dodge to get everyone at msrp would literally be putting everyone who bought a new hellcat in the past 3 years in a lottery system and then draw by 4,000. If someone passes or gives up their spot they have another in place.

The next step would have been to sign a 2-5 year no movd clause.

But all of this is too logical for dodge lol, plus I'm betting they are throwing dodge dealers a bone, notice a bunch of smaller dealers got allocations.

Right this is what I was saying, market conditions + last year + demon nameplate = this car is going for 165-250k.

200k is 200k whether it's msrp 200k or 100k msrp + 100k adm.

I think they underpriced it so that they wouldn't look like the bad guys when dealers charged adms, notice how the sheep blame dodge dealers and not dodg for this mess.

I have no doubt that figure is correct, IF you count the orders sold to themselves and their family.

Based on the number of orders I've heard go that way, it actually makes a ton of sense.

The motor company...relies on THEIR customers..(the dealer network)...to buy every vehicle they produce...and that's the way it goes...

I think Timmy should get his head out of his azz. I have contacted well over 150 Dodge dealerships and one dealer sold the 170 at MSRP. A few had sold the 170 at 25K to 50K, but most were 100K to 150K and the highest was 320K. Also, few dealers were ordering the 170 for the showroom and owner. I contacted dealers in six states. I believe Timmy has the same speech writer, as Biden, anything but the truth...

Too Complicated. My question was simple. No one thinks this is a 96K MSRP car. Dodge could have had it at $139,999 and the line STILL goes out the door. In this case, I get it (EV coming, save the dealers). But there are other cars (Gen 3 Ford GT; Raptors; TRX, etc) where the OEM could have charged WAY more but they didn't do it. Why not? No logical answer has been suggested yet. But I'll wait....I'm patient!

Did your dealership sell it at MSRP or was it one of the +100K++ shops?

I'm not sure what reality was, but MSRP was "implied".

Johnson's in Brighton BTW

Just so you don't feel too bad about missing there I think (but can't swear) that they ended up charging way above that. Same ole swap game most all dealers participated. Now I'm curious and will call tomorrow to see what they did...

Market conditions change, they couldn't pay people to buy the viper acr back in 2015-2017, they were like 140k msrp now they are
Damn near 250k.

To simplify the answer to your question either dodge did it on purpose or they did it on accident.

On purpose suggests they wanted to help dodge dealers knowing the demand was incredibly high and the dealers were allowed to collude with each other and thus anything over msrp was free additional cash, it takes probably 15 hellcats at msrp to make them 100k.

On accident suggests they listened to the general public about increases in pricing that were unsubstantiated and they wanted to keep the pricing reasonable and keep the buzz high.

My honest opinion that I keep hammering is this was gonna be a 165-250k car regardless, at the end of the day the money ends up in somebody else's pocket so 🤷‍♂️.

As far as lottery system, when you deal with manufacturers that have a lot of special editions that are sought after like porsche they either fall into one of two categories some do highest bidder or..... most do customers who buy a ton of cars. Unfortunately dodge dealers don't share the same loyalty

From what I know there are papers to be signed / initialed

Purchased at MSRP "YES" or "NO"
Check 1
I assume 62% signed / initialed "YES"

I m surprised it is 62 not 95 percent

Would I pay over MSRP & check off the "YES" box

You bet your ass I would
