Left my lettering on for two reasons.
1) Dodge has been bold brash and in your face going back to wild cartoon characters and high impact colors since the
late 60s, why not continue the back at you, against the grain, in ya face, defiant theme? Now the car has matured with
a blend of modern class but still raw in ya face. I feel the letters are appropriate.
2) A lot of what I grew up with is starting to evaporate ie: Plymouth, Pontiac, Mercury. Dodge did an excellent job keeping the
Muscle car alive while others have transformed into, well let’s just say it and get it out there”Transformer like robot
Styling” hence the description transformed. Now they want to remove the SRT branding as we know it. ”F.U.” Cold day in
HELL those letters come off intentionally. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest having those letters announced out back as
that’s where 99.9% of the public on the road will get to view the letters.
I also think it is cool for others to remove them for a clean look if that’s your bag, just not mine for reasons stated above. I suppose it also ushers in variety. Imagine if everyone had the same car, same color, so I do try to be open minded.
On another note, it‘s very ironic that I am in the process of buying DODGE lettering for my next project car. 1969 DODGE Coronet R/T. They were like hens teeth trying to find them. Almost impossible to find good used lettering, and who would want to part with them on a finished car, they weren’t reproduced up till fairly recently. Problem solved.
