Some of this is a bit like an infomercial, but still some good info I thought.

I’ve always wanted someone to walk me through an engine rebuild. This seems to be a good video to start with.
I’ll have to watch more later when I have more time.

Made it look so easy. I think when the time comes I'll just end up doing a short block... Well proactively when I start wanting to push the car harder.
I'd be to nervous to spend all that money on parts and screw it up.

I have taken most stuff apart on a engine. As far as the short block goes I have had someone do that. Did it back in 2000 and again in 2017. I took everything off and bolted everything back on and installed it myself just had the shop do the short block

Yeah, all the measurements, etc, I'd prefer left to someone that does it often as I might miss some small detail that would greatly shorten the life of the engine. Or just ship it to @16GoManGoHC2 or @Hpindy LOL.

Currently working to get over 600 wheel ponies out of my N/A 440 stroker :) We’re at 575 now on a Mustang dyno.

Alternatively, hire them to come to my shop and consult during the build.

I mean how much could they possibly be worth??

Having dabbled a few times (a 340, 440, 400, 360, and a 6.4) I still get concerned getting deep in a motor, so each time I have consulted those I trust for advice/help. But I will say it does build your confidence to see something run like it supposed to (or better?) when youre done...
The engineer in me says it can be done, just follow the specs, but the amateur mechanic in me says talk to those that have experience when you get the tools out... lol
I have watched this program quite a bit and always find interesting things when they walk thru the process no matter what engine they are working on.

I'm capable of doing a short block, I just don't care to

I had a friend back in Denver that was 10 years older then me. He built engines, transmissions all in his garage. I watched him put a short block together once, it's not that hard once all the parts are machined and ready to go back together. I remember him using plastic gauge to check the clearance on the crank

Agree, but those that are good at building an engine (and have done it enough times) always make it look easy. Nothing like experience.

I was in my 1st engine at 13 years old with my dad. It's not super hard to do. Knowing all the torque specs and bearing clearances etc. can usually come from a book. Having the proper tools is the bigger issue to me. They can get pretty expensive for something you don't use but once or twice. The few times I have done it gave me a great sense of accomplishment. It's a great feeling when you hear it fire up the 1st time and know that you did it right.

Best tip is from their LS days is shimming the oil pump to be on center. It does put down some good NA power!!

At CF one year all the Canadians were making fun of our American beer, so the next year my buddy and I brought 2 gallons of moon shine and that shut everybody up LOL. Became a tradition after that.

Where was that moonshine this year? Someone had some but it was only 40 proof. I told them that didn’t count 😂
Edit - is that why your friend almost hit Amanda 😜
