Center Carrier Bearing Failure.

So, my Cat started making a weird clunk and clicking type of noise... especially notable at low speed and when braking.

After a couple of hours troubleshooting wheel hubs and rear axles, I went for the drive shaft. No excessive thrust, but damn... the carrier bearing was shot. DS moved all over the place... like a wet noodle.

Well, damn. I searched online and came across a post, from a couple of years ago, on another forum. They were discussing this company JXB Performance (not affiliated), who makes these carrier supports.

Turns out, the bearing doesn't fail, but the hokey ass rubber and stamped steel support that Dodge came up with, certainly does. What a joke, this piece of backwards engineering is. Really.





I ordered one and it arrived in 3 days.





Today, I put the car back up on ramps and set to work. Easy? Yes. Could be easier? Yes... if I had a QuickJack. The ramps give me 10" of lift. It was just enough to get the job done.

No need to remove the exhaust. I unbolted the carriers at the rear resonators and the carriers above the exhaust servos. Loosened the clamps behind the cat pipes and let the exhaust hang down. It was just enough room to get the job done.



If you're a daily driver, or higher mileage Cat, shimmy under the car and check the driveshaft. Just push upward, on any part of it. If it is bad, it will move... A LOT.

Took me 2.5 hours, with the right tools... and swapping the diff fluid.

I need to start a GoFundMe me, for a QuickJack. LOL

I have the new 5000 xlt that lifts 3” higher than the old one and it’s the extended frame one. It flexes and scares the shit out of me every time I get under it. Flexes like a banana

if they built airplanes the way they build cars, falling to the ground would be the #1 cause of death.
The way some shops "repair" gear, I'm surprised we don't see more of that. I'd love to report some of the shit work that I see, on a daily basis.

I wouldn't be getting underneath that without extra jackstands.
No way should he getting under that car on that jack. 5K capacity includes the weight of the jack.

In my opinion, it's made for cars in the 3K range.

They sell one for cars in the 3k range. The 7k is meant for trucks over 5k lbs

I’ve left it up on the stands for months, I’m sure it’s fine. But definitely bends in the middle. I think it’s because I have it set up so that the front of the car weight is on the longer extended lift points (car moves forward when it lifts). I wonder if I turned them around and had the heavier front of the car on the back if it would still flex as much (car moves bsckwards when you lift

I said over 5k, but there’s a lot of light duty trucks between 5-6k range

It has a little flex, which steel is supposed to do. I’d be worried about the welds

It’s way more sturdy than my max Jax was, the arms on that thing flexed big time. Car also rocked in it no matter what. Rock solid on the quick jack
