Nice work Mike ! Kinda a shame that a brand new blower needs rebuilt 🙁 even worse about the injectors.

And the Whipple finally returned yesterday!!! Yaaayyyyy. They replaced the complete compressor section and rotors with new parts, basically a new blower. Still a J Rev but they’re calling this one out as a Pinned model, Hmmmm. Did a quick inspection behind sealing it back up, rotors look a bit different and it has a scraping sound when rotated. I’ll post a video on it, sounds much worse in video but it doesn’t turn buttery smooth like a IHI blower does, no rattling at least. I called Whipple today and they told me that is the coating of the rotors rubbing and is normal and will run in and create an almost perfect seal, we shall see but unfortunately won’t know for at least 6-8 weeks till I’m running again :(
They even returned my super magnet drain plug in the new rear gear case :)

I wouldnt be surprised if I have issue next year with the others failing. You have any issues with sending it back for them to fix it? Has to be hurting them fixing them all

This is why I keep things on the simple side. Hopefully they figured out that issue with the Whipple. Shame they've had so many problems now people are gun shy about them. Probably a missed opportunity at this point. It'll take a few years of no problems for them to be trusted I expect.

The big 4.0L ones had issues dropping bolts in the intake and destroying motors.

How'd you know there was an air bubble in the cooling system? I figured anything like that would make it's way to the overflow tank and just disappear.

Nope, no hassle. I called them Monday -Tuesday asking it’s status, they told me Bevin inspection in the next week or 2. 2 days later I got a shipping notice it was on its way.

How'd you know there was an air bubble in the cooling system? I figured anything like that would make it's way to the overflow tank and just disappear.
The day I ran that red vett and dark grey Camaro to 180, ie extended full throttle run then ever before since the rebuild and increased boost to 25 psi. I noticed the level in my coolant tank was higher than normal when I got home. When it cooled off coolant level was still about 1/2” higher than normal. I pressurized the system and loosened the set screw in the T stat housing and air came out for a bit till coolant came out and coolant level went back down to normal. Then I noticed it would repeat this if I did a 60-130 pull. Burped, repeat, would only happen if I was on it hard. Sent out 2 oil samples over this process no coolant in the oil. I backed off the timing to 12 degrees no change in coolant level, started inching timing back up a degree at a time and at 17 level rose again and and air pocket in Tstat housing back. Dropped to 16 no air, so in talking to HHP, Satera, and a few other motor guys I know they told me I lifting a head some where. I have an email from Josh at HHP that says over 20 psi of boost they recommend better studs than the standard ARP 8740 studs. A friend of mine that knows AJ well got me this 625 Head stud set at a killer price and I got the MLX gasket set from HHP. Word to note on the MLX gaskets, they have the same oil orfice size in the head gaskets as the 15-17 6.2’s had, .062”(1.5mm), new OEM 6.2 gaskets are .118” (3mm) (The 30% increase in oiling to the valve train comes from this change) So I’m going to split the difference and jet them out to .090”, see if I gain any bottom end oil pressure back or not.

Wow that's interesting and some good detective work. Will have to see how my stock head bolts do with 20psi I'm seeing now.

I’ve tested 20 psi you have no worry. Now 25psi. That’s a new venture 🤣

You don't think of blowers having issues. Started hearing rumblings right when mine was shipped:rolleyes:

If I had a 2.7 I would not have went that way. It's easy to look back and say I should have just done the 2.7 now but the 3.0 whipple have been out for years on the mustangs.

You're right very surprised to see these 3.0s having these problems. Some of the other stuff Mike's getting in to you have to start looking at how much is enough for a street car or rather how much you're willing to work with it.

Edited to add, I just got plain lucky a 2.7 fell in my lap or I might be right there with you guys having to send a blower off for a rebuild.

Well I have my worked over 2.4 yet with a Satera 2.75 Rings of Hell clutched pulley on the way for it, a 500 mile like new stock 2.4, and a new in the box yet 2.7 so the choices are many lol. I may put the old 2.4 on with the Satera pulley and run it until Satera has the clutched pulley out for the 3.0. I’m going to be a test mule for one for him for the first ones out, I’m sure to wring the hell out of it!!

You should make adapter plates for a Coyote 5.0, and LS platforms…

Well I’m hoping with this “pinned version” they have the issue solved. I’m probably still going to wait on the Satera Rings of Hell pulley for the 3.0 before running it a whole lot. I may put the 2.4 on with that variety of pulley and see what it does for my over rev issue between 3rd and 4th. I clutch in at around 65-6600 and engine still keeps going to 7-7200. I’d rev higher under power if I can get that over speed under control. From past testing with a litens pulley’s with a new pulley it wouldn’t over rev and would start doing so as the clutch action of the pulley finally deteriorated to nothing, ie a solid pulley then slipping then failure. The litens can’t take that kind of tq transfer of a quick reving engine with a +10 lower. After 3 in 2 months done with them for high boost applications at least.

Well here we go again, covid for Christmas 3 years in a F n row :(
Wife’s been sick all week, negative Wednesday positive today :(

AC045AE0-CCE9-47C0-9BB1-F8B39F23ED91.jpeg
So far I’m feeling ok. I’ve been Going through all kinds of tests since March on my lungs because of a persistent cough since covid last Christmas with each test and diagnosis leading to another round of tests leading to even a worse diagnoses so hopefully I don’t get it again for time #5. By Specialists orders I got the shot along with 2 different types of pneumonia vaccines over the last 3-4 months so if I lived through it 4 times before with no shot I’m not loosing any sleep over it but it sure has played hell with my lungs and probably be best to not get it again. I guess I’ll just have to go live in the garage for a while :)

I got "something" 2 weeks ago. 102 fever for about 4 days but no real congestion or anything. I felt like complete ass though and slept about 14 hours a day. I don't go to the doc unless I'm bleeding out my eyeballs and have never taken a covid test so who knows. I have had a lingering cough though. Hope it's not too bad on ya. Whatever I had I certainly don't want again. Don't think I've ever felt so bad.

Next time you have blood work have them check for the antibodies. I was never sick last year but came back positive for the antibodies so at some point I was exposed. Last years test was negative
