I started a thread a while back as Mike from OST and I started playing with Flex Fuel tuning: https://www.hellcatforum.org/threads/those-running-flex-fuel-get-in-here.5711/
Car setup for those not following along:
2016 Hellcat A8
Original motor threw a rod so I replaced that motor with a Demon/RE long block.
2.72 Hellraiser Pulley makes about 17psi of boost
ID1000 Injectors
Dual Pump drop in fuel system (this is what allowed me to start playing with ethanol as I had lots of overhead on the fuel system with this setup)
Results have been way more than I expected honestly. I'm not going to give specific timing advance numbers as I don't want someone just throwing those values in their tune as all cars are different, but what I will tell you is based on my 93 octane timing map, I went all the way to plus 9 degrees more advance than I had on 93 at full tilt E85 in the tank. I never got any STKR once I figured out a couple things about E85 and how it's 30% more fuel volume and resulting cylinder pressures impacted the knock sensors. It got to the point that the car was making too much power for the street to be honest, so I actually backed it down a tick or two in the end and will save the mojo for when I need it at the drag strip. To put that in to perspective when I was dialing in 93 octane I'd make a rip in 4th and shift to 5th to test and log. On E85 that was a bit hairy so I had to back that down to a rip in 3rd with a shift to 4th. Once I had things all dialed in I did do a few pulls 4th - 5th but I had to go way out on my "closed test course" for that.
It's been very cool to just roll up to the gas pump, drop in E85 and watch the car adjust and add power automagically. It's a pretty complicated tune so be sure to work with someone that has done them. Mike from OST did mine, Curt Dusterhoff has done a bunch as well. I've got some video I'll put together on my YT channel when I have a few minutes.
For the past several years I have been using Renegade Race Fuel RM109 unleaded at the track. It has a R+M/2 rating of 107 octane.
Octane – R+M/2 107
Motor Octane 100
Research Octane 114
Specific Gravity 0.723
RVP 6.7
Oxygenated 9.6%
Unleaded Yes
Stoich Ratio 13.04%
Color Blue
With the results I've seen from regular o'l pump E85 I'm going to try out some Renegade ethanol products in the future like this: https://www.renegaderacefuel.com/product/pro-e85/
Octane – R+M/2 100.1
Motor Octane 91.6
Research Octane 108.6
Specific Gravity 0.778
RVP 3.72
Unleaded yes
Stoich Ratio 9.91 : 1
Color Orange
